Antitrustitalia: Which Economic Advice for Competition Law Enforcement

Antitrustitalia

Dear Friends,

antitrustitalia’s 40th lunch talk is scheduled on Wednesday 18 October 2017 at the Auditorium of the Madou Tower at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition (DG COMP) in Place Madou 1049 Brussels.

Tommaso Valletti, Chief Competition Economist at DG COMP, will present on:

Which Economic Advice for Competition Law Enforcement

The presentation will assess in practice the role of the Chief Economist as part of DG COMP, and clarify the methodological issues of economics and econometrics that can be crucial in determining which competition law enforcement to pursue, if any. It will offer a survey of previous cases where the economic analysis “made a difference” as well as other cases where the economic defences put forward by the parties were “out of focus”.

Tommaso Valletti is the Chief Competition Economist at DG Comp. He is Professor of Economics at Imperial College Business School, and also Professor of Economics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Tommaso has a magna cum laude degree in Engineering from Turin and holds a MSc and a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics. Tommaso’s main research interests are in industrial economics, regulation, and telecommunications economics.

Lunch will be provided at 12:30, the presentation will begin at 13:00 and will close at 14:30. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please allow time to register at the Madou Tower desk, so we recommend coming at noon.

Entrance is free for antitrustitalia supporters. For non-supporters, there will be a fee of €20 to cover the cost of the lunch. Receipts can be printed from the link directly.
